Rust Stains

Rust stains are typically a result from the oxidation of iron-containing materials. When iron particles come into contact with moisture and air, a chemical reaction occurs, leading to the formation of rust. These iron particles can originate from metal furniture, tools, or even equipment left on the surface for extended periods of time. Water that contains high levels of iron can also contribute to rust stains when it comes into contact with the porous surfaces of pavers and concrete. Rust stains can be identified as reddish-brown in color.

How to Remove Rust Stains

Mild rust stains may respond well to basic cleaning methods, such as pressure washing. For more stubborn stains, specialized rust removers or cleaners containing oxalic acid or rust-removing agents can be used. Rust stains can also be difficult to remove because the strong acid that is needed to break down the stain can also remove any dyes or paints used to style the pavers.

Dilution Ratio

• Concrete: 1:2 dilution ratio (1 part water to 2 part F9)
• Non Porous Substrates: 2:1 dilution ratio
• Semi Porous Substrates: 1:1 to 2:1 dilution ratio
• Porous Substrates: 1:2 dilution ratio

Brief Instructions

Pre-wash the surface with a degreaser and allow the surface to completely dry before adding F9 BARC dilution to the stain. Use a pump sprayer to spray from one side of the surface to the other using a uniform spray. Apply a bit more product on the areas with more staining and apply it as evenly and as thick as possible without letting F9 run down the concrete. F9 should begin to turn white and foam slightly. Allow the product to dry (the stains should be removed as it is drying). If stains are still visible, repeat the application process. Note: A natural by-product of the reaction of this product and the concrete are light and dark mineral salts. Wet the concrete with water to reactivate the F9 cleaner. While wet, lightly broom the concrete to help F9 penetrate the concrete even deeper. Do not let concrete dry. Rinse LIGHTLY with a pressure washer to remove remaining surfactant. Do not use a surface cleaner here. Allow concrete to dry completely and evaluate results.
